3) Set aside the number of hours to devote to your home business each week. Be realistic. You may only have 30 minutes or one hour a day available on a regular basis. If you manage to spend extra hours – well done, and you will feel proud for doing so.

4) Write a weekly TO DO list. One for business and one for home. Be realistic. This will give you activities to work towards. Check them off as you complete them. You will feel a sense of achievement.

5) Establish a separate business work area in the home. If not possible, make sure to set aside time when you have privacy. Your time will be spent much more efficiently with no interruptions.

6) Be patient. A successful home business will not blossom overnight. Be prepared to put in some hard work for the first months to get things up and running. You will see results.

7) Reward yourself. If you have been putting extra hours into your home business take the day off. Spend time with your family and relax. You deserve it.

Enjoy time out. Life can be hectic and overwhelming. Add to that starting a home business as well as keeping a full time job! It is essential to have time out for yourself.

9) Invest in conveniences. For example: For the home business a faster Internet connection or time saving software. For the home an answering machine or a regular cleaner / babysitter. What can be done to free up some of your time and resources.

10) Family comes first. Do what you need to do for your family each day before anything else. They are your life and once they are content, then you will feel okay with spending time on your home business.

You can use Blogger, which is owned by Google.  Blogs are crawled by the search engines regularly, so that they get indexed very quickly.

Getting Started:

It is always best to try and make money from what you know.  It is far easier to write about what you know than try to make money writing about other things.  However, having said that you can find free content on almost anyu subject using  public domains and PLR’s.  You can also use ezine articles and place them as content into your website.  If you decide to use other people’s articles as a source of content, just be sure to include their name as the original author.  You pick a topic that you think would be profitable.

Adsense Research:

Start by finding how much the maximum bid s for a keyword.  Please note that you will not likely get anything close to his value as this is only showing the highest bid.  The visitor may click on lower paying ads.  Also, there are two types of PPC advertising.  They can advertise on the “Search Network” and/or the “Content Network”.  If they don’t advertise in the content network, the ads won’t show on your site.  This is the best information we have, so it will give you a general idea of the kind fo money available for a particular keyword.

You also need to find out the competition for your selected keywords.  This is a bit labor intensive and I will show you a way in another article.

Go HERE and enter the keyword or key phrase that you are targeting for your niche.  For example, if you are targeting “credit card”, you would key enter the keyword into the text box provided.  You want a keyword with over 1000 searches per month.

Now, take those same keywords and go to www.google.com and type “allintitle: keyword”.  This will give you an idea of the competition.

What you are looking for is high monthly traffic with the lowest number of volume or competition.

Once you find a keyword the fits this criteria, this is the keyword or key phrase that will get you listed high in the search engines and give you better results.

Finding Content For Your Blog:

You can find free content for your blogs at article sites.  You must follow the rules outllined in the article site.  Again, this usually means the author’s contact information and links in place.  Below is a list of links to article sites:

Once you have found content, you will need to modify it to fit your keyword.  For instance, if your ideal keyword is “new york car insurance”, you should include the keyword phrase “New York car insurance”.  While you’re doing this, make sure that the content still makes sense.  If not, reword it so that it makes sense.  You should also sprinkle the article with 2 or 3 relevant keywords to the term “New York car insurance”; such as, car insurance, new york, or car, and insurance.

Creating A Blog:

Blogger is a good blog tool to start with.  As you become more advanced in blogging you might want to look into using WordPress.org and getting a hosting service; such as, Godaddy, HostGator, etc.

To get started with Blogger, go to http://blogger.com and create an account.  I will not go into details on using Blogger.  They do have excellent tutorials at http://help.blogger.com.  YOu can play around with it until you become more comfortable with it.
Once you have created an account, create a new blog using your selected key phrase as your Blogger sub-domain.  For instance, if you use car insurance and “new car insurance” was the key phrase we found to fit our criteria during your keyword research stage, your blogger sub-domain would be something like:

http://new-your-car-insurance.blogspot.com or

http://newyorkcarinsurance.blogspot.com

Select a template to use.  Set the Blog title to be exactly as the same as your keyword phrase.  In our example, this would be “New York Car Insurance”.  Create a description that contains the key phrase in it at least once.

Make your first post to your blog using the content you modified earlier.  If you don’t have an Adsense account, apply for one now at: http://google.com/adsense . Apply using the url to your new Blog. Once approved, make sure you paste your Adsense into places where viewers are likely to click, and make sure you blend them in by setting the background color to be the same as the background color of your blog template.

Go to http://clickbank.com , http://cj.com , and http://paydotcom.com and create accounts.  Find affiliate programs for high-quality products in your niche.  Create affiliate links for these products and insert them into your sidebar on the template where it says “Links”.  Periodically, post full update with an advertisement that explains the benefits of a particular product.

Post another piece of private label content every 2 days.  Search formus with related content – qoute and link to pertinent information about your niche.

Insert links to other blogs, related news, videos, etc at the bottom of each post using your key phrase somewhere in teh anchor text of the link.

Get Your Blog Listed On Search Engines And In Top Blog Directories:

Once you have posted your first piece of private label content, inserted your adsense ads, etc, it is time to promote your blog.
Go to http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55 and submit your blog to as many of these blog and rss feed directories as possible.  Some of them may not accept you blog.  Use your key phrase in the title and at least once i the description if you are able to enter one.  This is going to take a number of hours of effort but it will be well worth it.

Go to http://yahoo.com and setup an account.  Add your RSS feed to your “My Yahoo” account as a news feed you want to monitor.

You will need to add RSS beta to your My Yahoo content if you don’t have it.  For more information on how, go to :

http://my.yahoo.com/s/rss-faq.html and add it.

You will now add your blog ito the RSS feed in my yahoo.  To do that, click on edit in the RSS feed section.  Enter your url to your blog.

Go to MSN.com and create an account and repeat what was done for Yahoo.  To do that, enter your blog url and “atom.xml” appended to the end of it where it says, “search for content to add”.

Submit your blog to:

http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request
http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl
http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

Go to http://pingoat.com/ and submit your blog.  Remember to use your key phrase in the title and at least once in the description.  Repeat “the Ping” every time you post new content to your blog.

Monitor Your Search Engine Rankings:

Once you have been indexed by search engines, check periodically your blog’s rankings within its niche.  You do this by searching on the key phrase you used for optimization.

If you picked a penetrable niche, you should be able to get onto the first page (at least on Yahoo) within a month, but if not, you will need to:

Search out link partners in your niche and setup reciprocal links.  Simple find high-ranking websites in your niche on Google and Yahoo and offer to exchange links with them.

Now, you can apply what you learned here and use it for other niche blogs.

If your child plays or is interested in sports, encourage him or her to begin going to sites on the Web that talk about sports or sell sports gear. As an affiliate marketer, you want to build up to about 10 products, so that you can mix up the top performing products and add the latest releases.  You should like what you are selling.

What may be a hot seller, may cool off and if you follow trends, you need to be able to move on.  You don’t want to add all these products at once.  You want to build slowly as you get more experienced.

Because you don’t want to overwhelm yourself with products, pick your products carefully.  Choose popular products because you want to have top performing products.

Here are some things to remember when you are selecting your affiliate products.

When you search for new products to promote from clickbank, there are certain things that you are looking for.

First and easiest is the selection of the category that you want to work with.  For instance, each affiliate product has some information that will help you make a good decision.

There are three sites you will want to use to assure that the product is a good product to market:

Clickbank Marketplace = www.clickbank.com
CB Trends = www.cbtrends.com
CB Engine = www.cbengine.com

Clickbank Marketplace:

1. Sales Price: ($/Sale) This is the amount that affiliate are earning for referring customers.  The amount earned is kept by Clickbank accounting and pays out every two weeks to the affiliate.
2. Percentage of Sale (%/Sale) This is the average percentage commissions earned per affiliate per sale.
3. Referral %: This is the percentage of sales that people you refer
4. Gravity Of Product: The gravity number is important because it shows the popularity of the product over time.  Every time the product is sold or a new affiliate joins and uses the link the gravity of the program will change.

CB Trends:

The popularity, price and commission paid for the product is very important.

When it comes to popularity or gravity, unless you are already a Super Affiliate, avoid the products with very high gravity (125+) because it means that the market will be highly competitive and the chances of you making sales will be decreased accordingly.

This applies only to Clickbank and not the other commission driven organizations.

In order to find out if the product is good to add to your affiliate arsenal, you will want to check it out at the CB Trends (www.cbtrends.com) which is a free service that shows visual representation of what is on the Clickbank marketplace site making it easier to understand.  There are some useful tracking tools that give you an easy way to see what is happening wit the products you choose including:

- Popularity of the product
- Earning per sale
- Percent per sale
- Gravity
- Referrals
- Commission

If you take the visual representation, combine it with what you see on Clickbank’s Marketplace, you will have a good idea of whether the product you’re considering will be a good idea for promotion.

Out of the 10 products that you pick to promote over time, you will want at least 6 of them to be popular.  You want to mix it up so that at least half of what you’re promoting is more competitive.  The rest of the products should be up and comers, those products that are newer and becoming more popular in the Marketplace.

CB Engine

CB Engine shows you the new products and is an excellent tool to use if you want to focus on the new product releases.  If you are going to work with Clickbank, which is a good step in the right direction with regard to your affiliate marketing, CB Engine should be one of the sites you bookmark and use.

CB Engine has a Brand New Products list, re-listed products with tons of information to help you make an informed choice about the products you want to promote.  Each product, new and re-listed, have graphs and visual representations about the health and viability of the products.

There are a couple of ways to go about finding out more about the product or service you are about to promote.  First, you can buy the product.

Whether it’s digital or tangible, buying and experiencing the product will usually make you a better promoter.  However, if any of the 10 products are too pricey, you can buy a couple of them and look over the sales pages of the remaining products.

When looking over the sales or pitch page, you will want to think in terms of being a prospective buyer.  Ask yourself some basic questions:

• Does the page, headline and opening paragraph grab your attention.

• Is the page easy to read in terms of colors, graphics, and layout of the site.

• Is the message being presented clear and concise and easy-to-understand

• Are there highlights of important facts, headlines to break up content and pictures that are relevant to the topic matter?

• Does the page lead you to the logical conclusion where you want to buy the product?

All of these things are important and will make or break you when people come through your affiliate link.  Having a page where you want to buy the product will generally translate to high sales conversions.

This way, the traffic you drive to the product site stand a higher chance of buying in the end.  If the page left you with a ho-hum kind of feeling, it is probably possible that visitors arriving at the site will have the same reaction.

As you go about promoting your affiliate products, make sure that you keep track of the products that are converting well, and the ones that are not.  When you have a hot product that goes warm and then cold, you need to be ready to get rid of it.

Earlier I stated that you should not get attached to a product or service.  This is why.  You have to know when it is time to get rid of it.

Refer to the choices you first made in Clickbank and ask yourself the questions from above.  Are there products that you might want to get rid of now?

Following these steps suggested above will help you to become a profitable affiliate marketer.

Finding a profitable affiliate marketing niche should be your first research.  You want to have a product that is hot.  If you find a product that isn’t, don’t expect to make any kind of money with it.

Amazon.com Best Sellers:

Amazon gives you a quick and easy way to find out what is hot and what is not hot.  It is a clear indicator of what the buying market is looking for, making it very easy for you to put yourself in the path of oncoming web traffic and make sales.

If you signup with Amazon’s affiliate program, you can sell all of the products on the site, and with the Best Sellers section, you will know which products are selling.  They also give you a Top10 list for each category so that you can use that to make articles, reviews, and blog posts.

Ebay Pulse tool: http://pulse.ebay.com

This is a great place to find out what the hot products are because if someone is typing it into ebay, they are typing it into Google and Amazon. Ebay Pluse gives you a real-time look at what people are looking to buy.

You can log into ebay and do a search on the completed items. It will tell you what people are selling, how many have sold and the average price.  Look for items with bids, and this is a great way to get an idea of what people are looking for.

Terapeak is another great way to find hot products.

Got to Hot Research, similar to ebay pulse.  It will give you a list of what’s hot on ebay.  You can drill down and it will give you an idea of some of the different auctions that are going on.  If there are bids, this is a good item to affiliate market.

Good average price above $30.00, with a good commission rate of no less than 40%, the higher the better.  Also, don’t go for the very high end products that are prices above $125.00.

Before you can actually get your domain and host it, you need to figure out what your blog niche is going to be.  While you can cover broader topics as a whole, you need to strategically plan out and cover multiple niches in order to dominate.

Keyword Research

You may already have an idea of what the topic of your blog is going to cover and if not, then now is the time to brainstorm some ideas.  I am going to cover blogs from the product scope, either solution oriented or problem oriented.  Each scope is going to require you to approach your keyword research slightly different.

Problem-Oriented Scope:

There a many people who use the internet every day that have a problem, whether it is insomnia, acne, hair loss, or weight loss.

The first part of this process is to think about your site’s focus.  For each scope of a blog, there is going to be a different focal point.  And when you learn to take the focal point and design the entire structure for the site, you can duplicate it for your next projects.

Problem: Insomnia

Your blog is about insomnia and how to deal with it.  You have pages that talk about the causes of insomnia and maybe how to mitigate those causes.

Following that, you would have a whole product line dedicated to curing insomnia, possibly including herbal remedies, over-the-counter pills, exercises, ebooks, or anything else you might find.

Finally, each solution to the problem could have a review written up for it, to show what the pros and cons of the solution would be…all leading to the ultimate goal; to sell a product.

Keyword Research Direction:

You’re going to focus on providing people a resource set for sleeplessness and other related terms.  You’re targeting people who can’t sleep for whatever reason.  You can get into the causes later, but shoot for a general domain name that would encompass this whole concept of sleeplessness or at least something very similar to the subject matter.

The people in this group are in the investigation phase, since they’re seeing what causes their problems.  It’s up to you to convince them to buy one of your solutions you have on your site.

The idea isn’t that you need to get an exact match for your niche keyword list; the pages you create on your site help with your keyword placement.  You want the pages to rest on a site that makes sense.

The Solution-Oriented Blog:

You see a lot of ads for popular products on the internet.  This type of advertising is solution oriented. You are aware of the problem and you are even familiar with it, so much so that you actually know what solution you need.

Everyone is bombarded by solutions all the time.  So, when one of the solutions you are seeking surfaces, then you immediate react and note that you now know where to purchase the product that will help with your problem.

Your blog is all about sleeping pills of just about any brand.  Your entire blog has many pages of sleeping pills and each one is reviewed. You should also include a discussion on what would cause you to want to take sleeping pills.
